HIV/AIDS Prevention Gaps: Whose Responsibility? Whose Role?

Monday 1st December 2008

Time: 1pm

Speaker: Dr Philippe Mayaud, Reader in Infectious Diseases & Reproductive Health, Clinical Research Unit, Department of Infectious and Tropical Diseases, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM)

Venue: Bennet Room (LG80), LSHTM, Keppel Street, London WC1E 7HT

An introductory talk to launch World AIDS Day events at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) will be followed by a screening of the 35-minute documentary:

Corn, Cattle, Coconuts and Condoms

The film is a possible example of how researchers may want to disseminate their findings while attempting to hold decision makers accountable and committed. "Too often, participants in research are not involved in the dissemination process and the uptake of research results. The film shows the innovative approach  taken by Dr Monique Oliff (RHRU, Johannesburg) in bringing the results of her research on existing reproductive health services (including STI and HIV/AIDS) in Tanzania to the decision-makers.

Come and listen to the voices of the community talking to - and challenging - their leaders.
