China's Engagement with Agriculture in Africa: Preliminary Findings from Zambia

Thursday, November 27, 2008 (All day)

Time: 1pm

Speaker: James Keeley, International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED)

Venue: Upper Meeting Room, LIDC, 36 Gordon Square, London, WC1H 0PD

China's engagement with food and agriculture in Africa has been a relatively neglected part of the China-Africa debate. Its significance however is likely to increase given China's prioritisation of support for agriculture through the China-Africa Fund, donor interest in the contribution of South-South learning to the transformation of African agriculture agenda and an African Green Revolution, and deepening integration of African producers in global supply chains for key agricultural commodities. This presentation will discuss these linkages and present initial findings from a scoping study with fieldwork in Zambia.

This event is co-organised by the Africa-Asia Centre and LIDC.
