Development Studies - a discipline or an inter-discipline? in the DTC-LIDC Seminar Series

Wednesday, March 27, 2013 - 15:30 to 17:00

Venue: Upper Meeting Room, LIDC, 36 Gordon Square

Speakers:

Laura Hammond, Department of Development Studies, SOAS

Justin Parkhurst, Department of Global Health and Development, LSHTM

The DTC-LIDC Seminar Series 'Understanding Development - Disciplinary Perspectives' has been looking at various academic disciplines (e.g. economics, epidemiology, law) and how they engage with international development.

The final session will take a critical look at Development Studies and examine the following questions:

  • Is it a discipline or an 'inter-discipline' (a discipline composed of several other disciplines)?
  • What are the key paradigms and approaches?
  • What are the current debates and controversies?
  • How has it been changing historically?
  • How does it link to other disciplines?
  • What are the likely future developments and challenges?

The seminar is open to all and free.
