Economic Liberalisation, Social Capital and Islamic Welfare Provision (Harrigan and El-Said, 2009) provides a detailed examination of the social impact of economic liberalisation in the Middle East and North Africa, using the social capital concept to analyse the Islamic response to welfare changes.

Aid and Power in the Arab World: World Bank and IMF Policy-Based Lending in the Middle East and North Africa (Harrigan and El-Said, 2009) explores the political motivations for IMF and World Bank funding in this region, looking at both geo-politics and domestic political events in the recipients. This is complemented by critical in-depth studies of four countries that have been regarded as the most successful participants in the programmes - Jordan, Egypt, Morocco and Tunisia.

Both books are published by Palgrave Macmillan.
