Scholarships available for distance learning postgraduate veterinary programmes

Ten scholarships covering all study fees are being offered by the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission in the UK to study for a MSc in Veterinary Epidemiology and Public Health by distance learning.

The scholarships, aimed at animal health specialists, cover the cost of studies delivered by the prestigious Royal Veterinary College (RVC), a constituent College of the University of London. Candidates are selected on the basis of merit and their potential to contribute to the needs of their home countries.

Particular benefits are the opportunity to become part of an online global learning community, interacting with fellow students from across the world, and participating in online tutorials with RVC academics.

Dr. Christine Thuranira-McKeever, programme director, Royal Veterinary College said:  “These scholarships are a great opportunity for veterinary and other animal health specialists to benefit from postgraduate training in veterinary epidemiology and public health. These subject areas are essential when addressing issues such as disease surveillance, zoonotic diseases and trade and market access for animal products. The scholarships will give an opportunity for animal health specialists to develop their knowledge and skills, which will ultimately enhance the veterinary capacity of their countries."

Former scholarship winner, Aruna Amarasinghe, a university lecturer from Sri Lanka said: “The degree you earn while being in your home country is equal to a degree that you could earn studying on campus in the UK, and it is a high standard and well recognized throughout the world. Moreover, what you learn would be very applicable to your day to day work. I am very proud to be an alumnus of the world renowned University of London in the UK, and the RVC, one of the pioneering veterinary schools in the world.”

The application deadline for scholarships is Sunday, 10 May 2015.  Applicants must be living and working in a developing Commonwealth country.
