LIDC is contributing about thirty thousand pounds towards fieldwork costs for three 3-year PhD Studentships offered under the annual Bloomsbury Colleges PhD studentships scheme. The funds will support research projects on a range of topics related to international development issues - such as gender violence, agricultural and health subsidies, and cross-cultural training. Out of twelve Bloomsbury PhD studentships awarded this year, four are related to international development.  

Successful applicants will begin their PhDs in autumn 2011.  The scheme is run by a consortium of University of London Colleges made up of Birkbeck, Institute of Education, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, Royal Veterinary College, School of Oriental and African Studies, and The School of Pharmacy. Each student will be jointly supervised by two academics in separate Colleges to promote an interdisciplinary approach to their research, The LIDC funds will supplement tuition fees and stipend provided by the consortium Colleges and enable students to do fieldwork in low or middle income countries, in line with our focus on interdisciplinary research and training to tackle international development problems.
