Comic Relief tender to carry out a Social Investment Review and Horizon Scoping Study
Comic Relief believes that social investment works alongside grant making as a means to pursue our charitable purposes, and have been piloting this approach since 2008. We define social investment as ways of creating new, or scaling up existing, streams of financing for organisations and initiatives that seem to offer sustainable development solutions.
Comic Relief is now considering making social investment a consistent element of our international funding portfolio. This review aims to support the development of a strategy here, based on learning from our existing work and wider thinking on the potential of social investments to support development work. The review is to be carried out between May and August 2012. Full details are given in the TOR, with tenders submitted by 14th May.

Medical Research Council funding to support Research Leaders in sub-Saharan Africa
The Medical Research Council has launched a second call to support African Research Leaders. This is a highly prestigious award, jointly funded by the MRC and the UK's Department for International Development (DfID), for non-clinical and clinical researchers of exceptional ability. The aim of the scheme is to strengthen research leadership across sub-Saharan Africa, by attracting and retaining researchers of high ability.

The Royal Veterinary College has a number of distance learning scholarships available for scholars from Kenya who wish to study for RVC's MSc in Veterinary Epidemiology and Public Health. The Distance Learning Commonwealth Scholarships are funded by the UK Commonwealth Scholarship Commission.
